Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
An important representative said the attack left him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
